Herbal Medicine
The use of whole plants for their curative properties, either as single herbs (simples) or more commonly in combinations (formulae) is one of the oldest healing traditions in the world. In many parts of the world herbs are still the main form of medicine used. Traditionally, and still today, herbs are used fresh or dried and added to food or to drink as infusions or distillations. Herbs used for medicinal purposes are usually taken as tinctures or decoctions, or as poultices and compresses externally Herbal practitioners also often include dietary and naturopathic advice along with herbal mixtures formulated to suit individual needs.
